April is National Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month, a time when child wellness and welfare organizations across the U.S. elevate the importance of creating systems and programs that put children and families first.
Amigos For Kids recognizes that all community members have a role in ensuring children have positive experiences and that families have the resources they need when they need them, well before they are in crisis.
Extreme stress and uncertainty for families may increase the risk of child abuse and neglect raising the need to support families and prevent abuse before it occurs. Child abuse and neglect are preventable, and all communities benefit when children and families are well supported. Parents and caregivers who have support systems and who know how to seek help in times of trouble are more resilient and better able to provide safe environments and nurturing experiences for their children.
Child abuse prevention occurs successfully only when groups leverage the power of partnership and during this year’s CAP Month, Amigos For Kids is on a mission, alongside its partners and supporters, to show how friends and neighbors, parents and caregivers, business leaders and elected officials, educators and community organizations all have a role to play in building bright, safe and successful futures for our community’s children.
“We are deeply grateful for everyone who provides support in spreading our message of child abuse prevention. Our generous sponsors and supporters enable us to move our efforts forward,” said Maggie Fresen-Zulueta, board chair.
“We are especially grateful to FedEx, The Children’s Trust of Miami Dade County, Unity on the Bay, First American Bank, One on One Learning, and Miami-Dade County Commissioners Kevin Cabrera, Roberto Gonzalez, and Micky Steinberg,” Fresen-Zulueta added.
“The transformative family strengthening and prevention work of Amigos For Kids is only possible because of the tireless commitment of our board, staff, volunteers, funders and sponsors,” said Karina Pavone, president & CEO. “They are compassionate leaders and supporters who make it their mission to do whatever is necessary to create great childhoods for all children in our community.”
