Area Stage Company (ASC)has “reached a new stage” and is proud to announce the presentation of its 2022 Mainstage Season at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. To celebrate the launch of ASC’s season at the Arsht Center, ASC will host a special, celebratory event chaired by Grammy-award-winning Latin singing sensation Jon Secada on Saturday, February 18th, starting at 9:30 p.m.

“I’ve been attached to the Area Stage Company for a long time now. Their reputation and history speak for itself,” said Secada. “I cannot think of a better alliance for ASC at this point moving forward than what it means to be in conjunction with the Adrienne Arsht Center.”

The celebratory event will take place in the Arsht Center’s Thomson Plaza at 9:30 p.m. following an ASC performance of the highly popular Broadway show Be More Chill. The event will include a silent auction, light bites catered by Constellation Culinary, and a chance for attendees to mingle with the cast, crew, and other notable attendees.

Members of the community may partake in the festivities and attend the event by purchasing tickets hereTickets are $125 each and all proceeds from ticket sales, as well as the silent auction, will go towards supporting ASC’s professional season fund to ensure a lasting partnership with the Arsht Center.

Distinctive guests in attendance include those from the art, music, and theatre world such as Broadway producer and director Richard Jay-Alexander; journalist, writer, and broadcaster best known for his work on ESPN, Don Van-Natta; and Broadway producers Arthur Whitelaw and Ronny Jacobson. Also in attendance will be local Miami political figures and ASC board members.

“Celebrating the launch of this new relationship with the Arsht Center is a major milestone in the progress of the company, marking the first time ASC will present its full Mainstage Season at an outside venue,” said Maria Banda-Rodaz, Executive Director of Area Stage Company.

ASC’s Mainstage season at The Arsht Center will commence the cult Broadway hit, Be More Chill, high-energy musical show which poses the question: What if popularity came in a pill? Would you take it, no questions asked? Be More Chill stars a young cast of local and New York- based actors and is directed by ASC’s Silver Palm Award-winning Associate Artistic Director Giancarlo Rodaz, who is fast becoming one of South Florida’s most original and prolific theatrical forces on the heels of his directorial successes including Annie, Shrek the Musical, The Wizard of Oz, Matilda the Musical, and more.

ASC’s season at the Arsht Center will also include productions of the off-Broadway controversial play by Will Arbery, Heroes of the Fourth Turning, which takes risks with a rare stage subject: Christian conservationism. Heroes will be followed by a new immersive staging – as approved by Disney – of Beauty and the Beast in August.

“The Arsht Center warmly welcomes Area Stage Company and its devoted audiences to our Carnival Studio Theater this season,” said Arsht Center President and CEO Johann Zietsman. “We are proud to be connected with Area Stage Company, another arts organization that is so deeply rooted in our community.”
