The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) and Spoken Soul Festival will present the 15th anniversary of the Spoken Soul Showcase with Vol. 15 Stories from the Womb (@spokensoulfest). The free showcase will take place on Apr. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Carnival Studio Theater.

This immersive, multidisciplinary spoken word experience will spotlight the voices of South Florida women and feature four poets, including teaching artists who work with incarcerated women from the Miami-based Beyond the Bars program and women who are part of Spoken Soul.

Admission to Spoken Soul Vol. 15 Stories from the Womb is free. Reserve passes online at arshtcenter.org or by calling the Adrienne Arsht Center box office at 305- 949-6722.

The theme of this year’s showcase, Stories from the Womb, aims to raise women’s voices and explore their experiences and unique takes on motherhood through powerful poetry. The selected poets, all from Miami, will share their personal stories, struggles and triumphs, and will bring to light the unique challenges women face in society.

Spoken Soul Vol. 15 will feature an intimate spoken word format with cabaret-style seating and dim lighting, providing a comfortable and intimate atmosphere for the audience. The visual art backdrop will enhance the ambiance of the evening, further immersing the audience in the poetry.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 15 years of Spoken Soul Showcase in partnership with the Arsht Center, with a renewed focus on the power and resilience of women’s voices,” said Veronica Barrios-Garcia, producer of Spoken Soul Festival. “We firmly believe in the ability of poetry to connect people, ignite conversations and inspire change.

“This year’s theme, Stories from the Womb, will highlight the important narratives of female poets and their experiences related to the womb. We warmly invite everyone to join us for this profound evening of poetry and community.”

Spoken Soul Vol. 15 Stories from the Womb will include artists who work in the Beyond the Bars program, an initiative for incarcerated women who have discovered their voices through the art of poetry. It also highlights poets from Spoken Soul, a platform for diverse women to express themselves and share their experiences through spoken word. The annual showcase, which is co-presented by the Arsht Center, is a part of the Spoken Soul Festival’s mission to amplify the voices of South Florida women artists from all backgrounds and walks of life.
