ArtCenter/South Florida leases new space at 1035 N. Miami Ave.

ArtCenter/South Florida has announced a series of new developments, starting with the lease of a space in downtown Miami, located at 1035 N. Miami Ave.

The space was designed to address the needs for affordable housing and working studios for artists. This program, previously managed by Cannonball, will enhance ArtCenter’s residency and educational programs.

By incorporating and building upon the successes of Cannonball’s residencies and its RAD program, ArtCenter/South Florida will have the flexibility to expand the Visiting Artist Program and re-imagine the educational programs associated with the residencies. This initiative places the ArtCenter a step closer to its ultimate goal of creating one of the most comprehensive artist residency programs in the region.

In addition, it was announced that Natalia Zuluaga joined ArtCenter’s team as artistic director. Zuluaga is a Miami-based curator and researcher with extensive experience in LatinAmerican Art. She obtained a Master of Arts from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. Her experience includes curatorial projects and exhibitions for the Judd Foundation (New York), CAM-Raleigh (North Carolina), and the Hessel Museum (New York). In conjunction with the board of directors and the executive director, Zuluaga will develop new programming and strengthen the residency programs.

With these new series of events, comes a new promising collaboration with the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) also located in downtown Miami. By incorporating artists awarded by CIFO into ArtCenter’s Visiting Artist Program, the collaboration promises to enhance programs, benefit communities, and support a shared interest in Latin America and the Caribbean.
