Art comes in many forms — and some just happen to be extremely delicious. That is why Dade Heritage Trust began its 2020 “Baking in Historic Places,” series with a trip to The Bakehouse Art Complex on Saturday, Feb. 1.

“We’re excited to have partnered with The Bakehouse, Miami’s premier not-for-profit incubator for artistic creativity,” Dade Heritage Trust executive director Christine Rupp said of the sold-out event. “The fact that the organization is also housed in a former industrial Art Deco-era bakery in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood was icing on the proverbial cake.”

Founded in 1985, The Bakehouse Art Complex provides studio residencies, infrastructure, and community to enable the highest level of artistic creativity, development, and collaboration for the most promising talent.

The nonprofit currently accommodates approximately 100 resident and associate artists, deriving from a rich diversity of backgrounds. Their work represents a broad range of media and practices, from painting to performance, from traditional to experimental.

“Once the mixing was done and the sourdough bread was in the oven, we got to go on a tour of the facility and learn more about this slice of Art Deco history,” Rupp said.

The next stop in DHT’s “Baking in Historic Places” series will be The Miami Beach Botanical Garden on May 2. But space is limited. To learn more call 305-358-9572 or visit dadeheritagetrust.org.
