U.S. Century Bank, one of the largest community banks headquartered in Florida, is partnering with Cristo Rey High School in Miami for a second year for the school’s 2024-25 Corporate Work-Study Program.
Four student-interns will spend the next nine months gaining hands-on experience in entry-level positions to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world professional skills.
“Our partnership with Cristo Rey is important as it provides students with a rare opportunity for professional development while still in high school,” said Luis de la Aguilera, chair, president and CEO of U.S. Century Bank. “We are proud to welcome these four students and look forward to observing their growth during their time with us.”
Cristo Rey Miams pioneering Work-Study Program places students within local businesses, enabling them to acquire essential job experience while offering tangible services to the community’s enterprises. The students work as part of a four-student job-sharing team to cover a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., throughout the school year. Students do not miss classes and can offset roughly half of their educational costs through employment.
The Cristo Rey Miami Corporate Work-Study Program is separately incorporated as a 501(c)(3) and operates as an employee leasing agent within Cristo Rey Miami. Students are employees of the Work-Study Program, not the Corporate Client. The Work-Study Program handles all payroll, W-4, I-9, Workers’ Compensation, FICA, FUTA, and other employment matters for the students. A fee for the service is charged to the company and is deducted as a business expense.
