The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) recognized Banyan Health Systems with a Bronze 2019 Quality Improvement Award, which grants them $84,506 for being one of the highest performing health centers in Florida and for making significant quality improvement gains from the previous year, while providing care to more than 17,000 patients annually.
HRSA’s awards support the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s goal of promoting a value-based payment system by improving the quality, breadth of services, modernization, efficiency, and overall value of primary healthcare delivered by health centers.
In FY 2019, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced nearly $107 million in Quality Improvement Awards to 1,273 health centers across all U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia.
“Banyan Health Systems will use these one-time grant funds to expand our achievements in clinical quality improvement, care delivery efficiency, and the overall value of health care in the communities we serve,” said COO and executive vice president Ileana Ruiz Garcia, MHSA.
Banyan Health Systems received this grant for excelling in five main categories, including Health Center Quality Leader, for achieving the best overall clinical performance among all health centers; Access Enhancer, for increasing the total number of patients served and the number of patients receiving comprehensive services, and Health Disparities Reducer, for meeting the Healthy People 2020 goals, by making a minimum of a 10 percent improvement across different racial/ethnic groups between 2017 and 2018.
It was also recognized in the category of Advancing Health Information Technology (HIT) for Quality, for being a health center that utilizes five HIT services and/or telehealth services to increase access to care and advance quality of care, and lastly for offering the services of an accredited Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH).
Banyan Health Systems has been advancing the health and well-being of South Florida’s diverse community since 1970 by providing quality, integrated healthcare in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. It is a Federally Qualified Health Care Center (FQHC), which means it meets strict guidelines established by the Federal Government and Health and Resources Services Association. Part of those guidelines requires them to care for everyone who walks through their doors – regardless of their ability to pay for services.
Over 17,000 patients have relied on their quality, patient-centered care and services including Pediatrics, Women’s Health Services, Geriatric Care, Psychiatric Services, Substance Abuse Treatment, Crisis Stabilization, Residential Treatment, Pharmacy & Laboratory Services, Case Management, and Research.
