Father’s Day at The Barnacle Historic State Park in Coconut Grove was a gathering for the ages.
The annual Cars and Cigars event took place on June 17 with dozens of vehicles dating from the 1920s all the way to the 1980s. Hundreds of guests enjoyed the historic property on Biscayne Bay packed with truly iconic cars from all over the world.
“Cars and Cigars is one of my favorite events at The Barnacle,” said John Palenchar, president of The Barnacle Society. “It has the elegant feel of a classic car show, the relaxed ambiance of The Barnacle grounds, and great activities for everyone in the family.”
Each exhibitor who brought a car to the event was given a free cigar from the traditional hand-cigar rolling booth.
All over the park visitors could be seen enjoying the beautiful weather and often reminiscing about the days when the cars displayed would be considered new and cutting edge.
The Barnacle is one of Miami’s oldest homes. Built in 1891 by a founding resident of Coconut Grove, Commodore Ralph Munroe, it has been a state park ever since his grandsons donated the land in 1973. Events are held on the grounds regularly and include an upcoming Fourth of July celebration.
