Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami (BBBSM) celebrated the graduation of 429 Littles at its annual ceremony, held on June 6 at Florida Memorial University.

The event, proudly presented by sponsors Old Spice School of Swagger and Walmart, honored the achievements of these remarkable young individuals who have successfully completed the BBBSM program and are graduating from high school.

The ceremony featured a special appearance by Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver, Jaylen Waddle, who engaged in a heartfelt conversation with BBBSM President and CEO Gale Nelson, sharing insights and encouragement with attending graduates. Graduating Littles were also presented with gifts from Walmart and Old Spice in recognition of their dedication and academic achievements.

In a testament to the power of mentorship and community support, nearly $1.5 million in college scholarships were awarded to the graduates, providing them with the financial support needed to pursue higher education and achieve their dreams.

Gale Nelson, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, reflected on the impact of the program: “This ceremony is a powerful reminder of the difference that mentorship can make in a young person’s life. Our graduating Littles have shown extraordinary resilience and determination, and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, mentors, and the entire BBBSM community for their unwavering support.”

“Since 2020, Old Spice School of Swagger has been on a journey to help increase high graduation rates among boys of color with mentorship partners like BBBSM. We are honored to return as a sponsor of this year’s ceremony and celebrate 2024 graduates in achieving a critical step in their education career.”  – Kate DiCarlo, Senior Communications Director, Personal Care Portfolio, Procter & Gamble.

The evening was a celebration of hard work, dedication, and the enduring relationships built through the BBBSM program. The support from sponsors and the community has enabled BBBSM to continue its mission of empowering youth through mentorship and educational opportunities.
