The Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) recently swore in its newest member, Mary Street, who will represent Miami-Dade County Commission District 5 on the CITT.
Street is an attorney in the Miami office of Foley & Mansfield PLLP, where she focuses her civil litigation practice on medical malpractice defense and appeals.
For many years, Street lived without a car. She used transit, walked, and biked in Ann Arbor, MI; Washington, DC; Vienna, Austria, and here in Miami. Street is an advocate for improving transit and mobility services, safety, and access throughout Miami-Dade County — to benefit both users and non-users of these services.
“My vision for Miami-Dade County’s transportation future is changing the question for everyone from: “Can I get there without a car?” to “How can I get there without a car?” Street said.
Javier A. Betancourt, AICP, executive director of the CITT, said Street brings with her personal experience in using various transit systems, and a strong sense of advocacy for improving overall transportation in Miami-Dade County.
“As an avid transit user and an active advocate for improving transportation, Ms. Street will be a great new addition to the Trust,” Betancourt said. “We are pleased to welcome her, and we look forward to working with her in continuing to improve our overall transportation systems in Miami-Dade County.”
Street was to be sworn in as a Trust member during the CITT Full Trust meeting on Thursday, May 27.
The CITT is the 15-member body created to oversee the implementation of the People’s Transportation Plan, which is funded by the half-penny sales surtax that was approved by Miami-Dade County voters in November 2002.
The CITT has two remaining vacant seats in Districts 3 and 10 and is currently accepting applications for these seats.
