Insurance executive Gary Reshefsky, a partner with the MDW Insurance Group located in Coral Gables, received a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Miami on July 14 in recognition of his efforts serving as the city’s director of Risk Management during 2010-11. Reshefsky is a resident of Coconut Grove.
“We wish to thank Gary and his family for the long hours he devoted as director of Risk Management,” Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado said. “We are grateful for your hard work and efforts which helped the City of Miami save a lot of money.”
While serving clients and maintaining his role at MDW Insurance, Reshefsky acted for 12 months as the city’s director of Risk Management, the third largest city department behind only Police and Fire. In this role, he oversaw a $60 million budget, redesigned the city’s healthcare plan, restructured the property insurance program, secured an enhanced liability and workers compensation program, introduced a cloud-based Risk Management Information System, redesigned the claims management process and various other risk management activities.
MDW Insurance Group is a full service insurance and risk management firm based in Coral Gables with more than 50 employees. Prior to MDW Insurance, Reshefsky was the director of Risk Management at USI Insurance Services in Miami. His expertise includes working as a broker in the London and Chicago insurance markets and as an attorney for the law firm of Greenberg Traurig.
Reshefsky holds a Juris Doctorate and MBA from the University of Miami and a Bachelor in Business Administration from George Washington University.
Committed to community service, he is a member of the National Professional Liability Underwriting Society and a vice president of the Miami Children’s Museum.
