City Manager appoints new director of Code Compliance

Miami city manager Emilio T. Gonzalez has appointed Adele R. Valencia as director of Code Compliance effective Feb. 4.

Valencia will be responsible for leading the department in charge of enforcing the city’s rules and regulations while improving the quality of life of residents as well as beautifying the streets, business corridors and neighborhoods in the city.

“I am confident that Adele R. Valencia — with her knowledge of legislative, government and policy practices is the ideal person to lead our Code Compliance Department forward,” Gonzalez said. “This continues our practice of hiring well-qualified professionals that are willing to dedicate their time to serve the residents of Miami.”

Valencia served as chief operations officer for Miami-Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava since 2014 where she managed a $1 million budget and oversaw a number of initiatives and community partnerships focused on good government, quality of life and ensuring South Dade’s fair share of resources. As the code director she will oversee 61 Code Compliance employees and manage a budget of almost $7 million.

“I am grateful to be joining a department of hard-working men and women advancing quality of life issues in the City of Miami, my longtime home and the place I’ve chosen to raise my children,” Valencia said.
