The City of Miami Senior Rental Assistance Program has reopened for new applications now through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. This initiative, established by the City of Miami Commission, aims to support low-income senior renters (ages 62 and older) residing in the City of Miami, who face financial strain and are vulnerable to annual rental increases.
Qualifying households may receive up to $500 per month for rental expenses based on need, for a duration of up to one year. Eligibility criteria include, but are not limited to: the senior applicant’s household income must be 50 percent of the area median income (AMI) or below; monthly rental costs should exceed 30 percent of their household income; rent payments must be current, and there should be an executed lease/rental agreement.
Paper applications are available at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Dr., and all City of Miami Commissioner District Offices. Interested individuals can also call 311 for a list of locations where applications are available. Only one paper application will be accepted per household, and submission does not guarantee eligibility or assistance. Note that this program cannot assist seniors residing in public housing or those already enrolled in a federally funded rental assistance program (Section 8, Sec. 202, VASH, etc.).
All applications must be submitted by Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, following the instructions on the application form. The order of application submission (first or last day) does not impact eligibility. After the application period closes, preliminary eligibility will be assessed, and ineligible applications will be disqualified. Random, computerized lotteries will then establish district-specific waitlists, determining the order in which eligible applications will be processed.
This program is made possible, in part, with federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. The program is contingent on available funding and can close at any time. For general information, visit www.miamigov.com/SRAP.
