The 2016 edition of the Miami Boat Show in February added an artistic touch with Coconut Grove artist Lisa Remeny creating a 75th annual commemorative poster, titled Bare Toes on Biscayne Bay.
Remeny’s oil painting captures the crystalline blue waters of Biscayne Bay while one is relaxing on the deck of a boat as it hurries across the bay. From the vantage point of the Boat Show’s new home, the backdrop is Miami’s skyline as it appears today.
“I had endeavored to create an image that reminds us of the many reasons we are fortunate to live here,” Remeny said. “I wanted to accent the beauty of our seascapes and our cloud formations while enjoying a day out on a boat. These are among my favorite things about living in Miami.”
Remeny also applied her favorite seascapes and Jamaican designs to the wraps that accented the metal cabinets at the new Miami Marine Stadium Park & Basin site.
South Floridians are quite familiar with Remeny’s work as her creations have included posters for noted arts and music festivals such as The Miami Bach Society’s annual “Tropical Baroque Music Festival” for the past 17 years and she is a two-time poster artist for the prestigious Coconut Grove Arts Festival. In 1991, she created Mike’s Sitting Room and in 2005 painted Coconut Grove Revisited, both among the arts festival’s most popular images.
The light and lushness of the tropics have been a continuous source of inspiration for Remeny. From the Caribbean to the South Pacific, she interprets her surroundings through oil paintings and mixed media on paper ranging from photo-realistic to semi-abstract realism. She began publishing her work, first in the form of greeting cards, in 1982.
Born and raised in subtropical Miami, Remeny graduated from California College of the Arts and she soon thereafter spent time sailing the Bahamas and living for an extensive period in the Caribbean. Today, she paints on location throughout the tropics. Her work is in private and public collections worldwide.
