SafeSummers has invested $1 million in summer programming for 5,000+ kids Summer youth programming options include music, sports, STEM, and more
As the school year closes and summer approaches, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins proudly announces her office’s continued investment in youth safety and enrichment through the 2025 “SafeSummers” program, awarding $175,000 in grants to more than a dozen local organizations serving District 8.
Launched in 2021 alongside the “SafeSpaces” initiative, the “SafeSummers” program was created by Commissioner Cohen Higgins to provide young people in South Dade with full-time summer programming rooted in community, education, and enrichment. Since its inception, these programs have been awarded over $1 million in funding and have directly impacted the lives of more than 5,000 youth in Miami-Dade.
“The safety, well-being, and opportunity of our children are at the heart of everything we do,” said Cohen Higgins. “The SafeSummers program is more than a funding initiative—it’s a promise to our families that we are committed to building a stronger, safer future for South Dade’s youth.”
The 2025 “SafeSummers” grants will support programming across District 8 that includes music, sports, arts, STEM workshops, cultural activities, and community-building projects. The selected organizations play a vital role in giving youth a productive and supportive environment throughout the summer months.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to learn more about the available programs and how they can benefit their children during the summer break. Most activities are free or have a nominal participation fee.
