Coral Gables Hospital has recognized Michael Jean-Noel, RN, for being named this year’s first DAISY award winner. He works in the hospital’s emergency department and has gained the respect and gratitude of his co-workers and patients.

Jean-Noel is described as the epitome of compassionate, always going above and beyond for patients even after they leave the hospital. Patients often ask for him by name because of the high level of care he delivers.

“I congratulate Michael on being recognized as this quarter’s DAISY award winner,” said Jeff M. Welch, CEO of Coral Gables Hospital. “He truly exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding nurse, and we are fortunate to have him as part of our team.”

Jean-Noel was presented the “Extraordinary Nurse” award by Coral Gables Hospital’s administrative team. The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” He also received a sculpture, titled “A Healer’s Touch,” that was hand-carved by the artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.

The DAISY Foundation was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes after he died of an auto-immune disease. His family was so touched by the compassion and hope provided by the nurses who cared for him that they created the DAISY Award. The award honors nurses who provide excellent patient care while simultaneously providing extraordinary emotional support to patients and their families
