Miami-Dade County, inclusive of the greater Miami region, was named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s Best Places to Live and Work in 2021.

The county was ranked eighth out of 25, beating out many other major film meccas in the United States. MovieMaker determines the winners using surveys, editorial research on tax incentives and recent productions and personal visits to most of the locations on the list, as well as the best available information on how they are coping with the pandemic.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s No. 1 priority is to protect lives and livelihoods, and the county has been working to keep cast and crew safe by following government and industry-specific health and safety protocols.

“We welcome film, TV and print productions back to Miami-Dade County,” said Sandy Lighterman, chief of Film and Entertainment. “The screen production industry is an economic generator, and we are seeing cast, crew and businesses go back to work in a healthy and safe way.”

The Miami-Dade County Film, TV and Digital Media incentive program accommodates projects with budgets of $500,000 or more. Additionally, the cities of Miami Beach and North Miami have municipal screen production incentives. And all these incentives are stackable. Additionally, the State of Florida has a sales tax exemption program that saves production up to 7.5 percent on certain expenditures.

Miami-Dade County is known for its independent filmmaker scene, and the Film and Entertainment Office assists productions in everything from permitting to logistics to film festivals. FilMiami and its one-stop permitting shop represents a cooperation between the county, City of Miami Beach and 15 other municipalities.

MovieMaker Magazine is the country’s leading resource on the art and business of filmmaking. The issue featuring Miami-Dade County will be available on newsstands in February. For the complete 2021 list of Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker — and complete details — visit MovieMaker.com.
