For most in a Hispanic culture, a quinceañera marks a milestone in a girl’s life. The party celebrating the girls 15th birthday symbolizes her entrance into womanhood.
Taking action to celebrate Adriana’s 15th, the CoverGirls focus group of The Caring Place: Miami Rescue Mission/ Broward Outreach Centers hosted a very special socially distant event to remind homeless guests and residents there are compassionate people who love and appreciate them deeply and truly want to help. A quinceañera tradition in Mexico, where Adriana is from, is to have a godmother, and the CoverGirls were all her godmothers.
Hosted outdoors at the center’s Miami Gardens Church Property, the individual supporters of the group joined to make the event happen. In the spirit of a quince party no detail is too small. Adriana was able to get two beautiful dresses from the Bargain Barn Thrift Store and from a generous supporter to sport in her photos and at her party.
Jamie J Ross Beauty graciously offered to do Adriana’s hair for the event. Melanie Behar of Golden Looks by Rose did her makeup. Pictures were done by photographer Yanelis Torres.
The event, which had a French theme, was brought together by the individual supporters of the Focus Group. The food spread they prepared consisted of a cheese platter, baguette bread, fruit platter, veggie dip, ice tea, water, pink lemonade, croissants with chicken salad, tuna platter, cream puffs, macaroons, tea sandwiches, charcutterie board, and a special cake.
The outdoor area of the church was enhanced with beautiful French inspired decorations provided by Tadia and Elle from The Truth about Lending. At the event Adriana received all of her Amazon wishlist items and enjoyed a day to remember. There were many emotions at the event and both Adriana and her whole family were overcome with emotions. Adriana cried due to the outpouring abundance of love that she was shown as well as being able to share a dance with her father, mother, and two younger brothers. She was shown that she was not forgetten as she transitions to womanhood.
Adriana’s Mother, one of the residents at the Miami Center said, “It was such a treat to be shown love on my daughter’s 15th birthday. We came to this country on a work visa to better our life for our family and the pandemic struck. We spent time on the street alone thinking that no one cared, but being here at the mission we see that there is hope and people care about us. Thank you to everyone that has shown us today that we matter especialy during this world pandemic.”
In the words of Adriana, “I never expected to receive this much for my birthday.”
Rev. Ron Brummitt, president of Miami Rescue Mission/ Broward Outreach Centers, said,
“We want to love the homeless and needy at all of our centers and celebrate not only their strength throughout their struggles, but also their decision to walk through our doors and work towards a better life. We are dedicated to helping transform the lives of those who are homeless and in need; we never want a day to go by where they feel unloved or unwanted.”
Miami Rescue Mission/ Broward Outreach Centers expressed gratitude to the very generous support of donors, volunteers, and corporate partnerships that make it possible to bless residents and neediest of South Florida with life-changing services and donated items.
Miami Rescue Mission| Broward Outreach Centers is a conduit of gifts that come from the community and are passed on to the homeless, hungry and needy of South Florida. Thanks to the very generous support of “giving partners,” volunteers, and corporate partnerships they are able to bless not only the centers’ residents, homeless guests and to some of the most neediest of South Florida. This is done through donated items, life-changing services and programs. Special thanks to Guy and Loyda Lewis and many other individual supporters for sponsoring this event.
