The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) held its 2025 Inaugural Convention and Judicial Luncheon on August 7-8, 2025, at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Coconut Grove.
This year’s judicial luncheon focused on the official dedication of the new courthouse in downtown Miami in honor of the late attorney, Osvaldo N. Soto (1929-2021). This tribute not only recognized Soto’s distinguished legal career and lasting contributions to the community but marked a historic milestone as the first courthouse in Florida to be named after a Hispanic individual.
“Coming together to celebrate Osvaldo Soto and our judiciary made this year’s luncheon especially meaningful,” said Amanda Fernandez, president of CABA. “It showed the strength of our legal community and the importance of honoring those who paved the way and those who continue to serve with dedication.”
The two days of programming included continuing legal education sessions featuring local legal professionals, judges, elected officials and community leaders. The topics discussed were:
- Behind the Bills: 2025 Florida Legislative Recap
- Game On: Legal and Economic Impact of the 2026 World Cup in Miami
- Smarter Lawyering: Ethical Use of AI in Legal Practice
- Federal Justice: Stories and Lessons with Former U.S. Attorneys for the Southern District of Florida
- From the High Court: High Standards for Professionalism and Ethics
- Tales from Tallahassee: Perspectives from Former General Counsels to Florida’s Governors
- Conferring about The New Conferral Rules: Updates to the Florida Rules
