The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM), under the artistic direction of Eriberto Jimenez, has announced its annual Grand Gala Performance, featuring the timeless Don Quixote Suite, on Saturday, May 31, 8 p.m.. at the Fillmore Miami Beach.
Inspired by the iconic novel El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, the performance brings to life the story of a nobleman whose obsession with tales of chivalry leads him on a delusional yet noble quest for justice and adventure. This vibrant and spirited ballet showcases the technical brilliance and passionate artistry that define CCBM’s signature Cuban ballet tradition.
The evening will feature guest principal ballerina Maritze Fumero with soloists and corps de ballet from CCBM, beautiful costumes and scenery and the gorgeous music of Don Quixote.
In addition to Don Quixote, the gala program includes:
Esmeralda Pas de Six – Inspired by Victor Hugo’s Notre-Dame de Paris, this ballet follows the story of the enchanting Esmeralda and her ill-fated love for Captain Phoebus. Originally choreographed by Jules Perrot (1844) and later revived by Marius Petipa (1886).
Odalisques Pas de Trois – A dazzling excerpt from the ballet Le Corsaire, this trio features the graceful and intricate choreography of the harem girls, showcasing delicate precision, charm, and classical beauty at its finest.
Narcizo – An original piece inspired by the Greek myth of Narcissus, a beautiful youth who becomes entranced by his own reflection in a still pool of water, exploring beauty, self-reflection, and transformation.
Founded in 2006 by the late Pedro Pablo Peña, the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami is one of South Florida’s premier ballet companies, dedicated exclusively to the classical repertoire and the celebrated traditions of Cuban ballet. Known for its exceptional technique and artistic excellence, CCBM continues to captivate audiences both nationally and internationally.
