Access and accuracy are always top priorities for the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections (SOE). Like all supervisors of elections in Florida, the Miami-Dade SOE uses the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ driver and vehicle information database (DAVID) to search for and verify a voter using either the old or new driver’s license number. Voters should use their current (new) driver’s license numbers when interacting with our Office but having the old number does not prevent them from voting by mail or in-person. Even though new Florida driver’s license numbers were issued prior to the 2024 election cycle, vote by mail ballots were requested without the new numbers causing an issue.
I want to remind everyone that per state statute, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles provides the opportunity to register to vote or to update a voter registration record to everyone who comes to an office to apply for, update, or renew a driver’s license or state identification card.
I am very proud of our elections system. Florida has the best voting system in our nation thanks to our Legislatures and Governors that have continuously passed laws to make our elections safer, more secure, accurate, and transparent.
For general questions, please call 305-499-VOTE. Should there be any issue when requesting a vote by mail ballot, call us at 305-499-8444.
Let’s vote, Miami-Dade!
The Honorable Alina Garcia Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections
