Duane Morris co-sponsors event to benefit the Crystal Academy

On Thursday, Sept. 20, Duane Morris served as a co-sponsor for a fundraiser to benefit the Crystal Academy, a Coral Gables-based center dedicated to early and intense therapeutic interventions for children diagnosed with autism and related developmental delays

The Academy has operated in the area since September 2009, and has enjoyed incredible support from the community and an already successful track record with its students. Children frequently reach school age prepared to learn but illequipped for the pace and stresses of a typical classroom environment.

In response to those needs, the Crystal Academy Primary School (CAPS) will open in the fall of this year. The mission of CAPS will be to provide a special-needs modified academic program for grades K through 3 that emphasizes achievable academic growth, self-sufficiency, appropriate social interaction and problem solving.

The gathering, held at Crave Restaurant in Coral Gables, was well-attended, attracting some 55 guests. The Academy will use all funds raised to provide scholarships to students in need of financial assistance.

Also in attendance were several Duane Morris partners, including Mark S. Scott, who has played a crucial role in the growth of the Academy and the upcoming launch of the school, as well as Harvey Gurland, the managing partner of the firm’s Miami office, and Michelle Gervais, the chair of the firm’s Women’s Initiative in South Florida and the organizer/chair of the event.
