New World School of the Arts has announced Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ appointment of Eugenia Salvo to the position of assistant principal of NWSA High School.

A seasoned educator, Salvo also held the position of assistant principal at North Miami Middle and Gloria Floyd Elementary and was a reading coach at Homestead Middle School.

As a high school teacher, she taught ELA at Homestead Senior High and Westland Hialeah Senior High. Salvo also taught ESL for two years in Santiago, Chile before working for M-DCPS.

“New World School of the Arts is pleased to welcome Ms. Eugenia Salvo as assistant principal. Ms. Salvo brings a wealth of experience specifically in curriculum,” said Dr. Contessa Bryant, NWSA High School principal. “She has served as a Reading teacher and coach at various grade levels and is positioned to help bring needed insight to our school community.

“As a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps for the Florida Department of Education, she has a bird’s eye view of state assessments and scoring. We are so proud to welcome her to the NWSA Family,” Dr. Bryant added.

“NWSA is such a unique place, and I am truly thrilled to be one small, little part of the path of these incredibly talented young people. It’s going to be an awesome year,” Salvo said enthusiastically.

Salvo attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a concentration in Journalism. After working as a journalist and living abroad for three years, she discovered her passion for education and began working with Miami-Dade County Public Schools in 2009 as a high school English Language Arts teacher. Eventually, Salvo decided to continue her formal education and pursue a new degree, earning her master’s in Educational Leadership from Florida International University in 2016.

Her passion for literacy and growing leadership skills led her to becoming a reading coach, where she found new and innovative ways to encourage a love of reading, build strong foundational skills, and help schools make significant gains. This also led to important work through the Florida Department of Education as a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps and opportunities to sit on testing review boards that make an impact throughout the state of Florida.

For over a decade Salvo has helped schools to make gains in reading and overall school grades, she has taken on a variety of leadership roles and experiences, and she is always ready to use her skills and resources to grow as an effective leader.
