The board of Seraphic Fire announced on Nov. 15 that Rhett M. Del Campo has shared his decision to depart the organization, effective Jan. 31, 2023, after serving as the organization’s executive director for eight and one-half successful years.
“Mr. Del Campo ably served the organization since August 2014,” said interim board co-chair Mark A. Trowbridge. “Under his leadership, Seraphic Fire has enjoyed tremendous success, growing substantially in both size and reach. He worked together with our committed board and staff to launch and grow robust education programs — including the Seraphic Fire Youth Initiative, a vital program that brings music education into Title I elementary schools across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Collier counties.
“He forged three major education partnerships: the Ensemble Artist Program with UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music and University of Miami’s Frost School of Music (UM), Professional Choral Institute at the Aspen Music Festival and School, and annual student conductor and composer apprenticeships, also with UM,” Trowbridge added.
During his tenure, Del Campo helped increase Seraphic Fire’s private giving nearly twofold, built a robust cash reserve, and launched an endowment program investing assets with Coral Gables Community Foundation and The Miami Foundation. With his keen eye for fiscal health and responsibility, the organization’s net assets have grown from $200,000 to nearly $2 million. The operating budget increased from $1.5 to $2.1 million, with annual budget surpluses achieved over the past six seasons.
Del Campo also helped steward the organization through the extreme challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring all contracts with its artists were honored, all staff positions were retained, and the organization’s financial health was preserved.
“At my core, I am a leader who increases an organization’s impact by seeing the opportunities partnerships create; empowering all to grow and excel in their work,” Del Campo said. “At Seraphic Fire, over the past eight years we’ve built genuine, sustainable national partnerships so that more choral enthusiasts and aspiring professional singers can benefit from Seraphic Fire’s unique artistry.” Del Campo concluded, “I count myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with our entrepreneurial artistic director Patrick Quigley, a highly supportive board of directors, and the extremely dedicated and talented staff who have come through these doors.
“I especially appreciate the chance to work in support of our uniquely talented artists who are at the heart of this organization. I look forward to watching Seraphic Fire continue to grow and produce some of the most beautiful performances of the utmost artistic integrity.”
Del Campo will be departing South Florida to lead a burgeoning youth arts organization in the San Francisco Bay Area. While Seraphic Fire is sad to see him head west to California, the board is thrilled to support his continued trajectory as a transformational arts organization executive.
With its 20th season opening recently to rave reviews — celebrating a program featuring the juxtaposition: Love & War — Seraphic Fire looks forward to an inspiring series of concerts in the months ahead.
A national search for a new executive director will begin shortly, under the direction of the board of directors. For questions contact interim fo-chairs of the board of directors: Diane@SeraphicFire.org or Mark@SeraphicFire.org.
