Family Expo, Parent Club Pass Help Round Out Summer; Ready Kids for School

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Summer in Miami-Dade is in full swing, and The Children’s Trust is working hard to make it memorable. From the return of the Family Expo to the launch of a program that rewards parents and caregivers for learning parenting skills and techniques, The Trust is helping make the most of these final weeks of summer by filling them with fun, learning, and support for all children and families in our community.

The Children’s Trust Family Expo, the community’s largest free family resource event, is making its highly anticipated return to the Miami-Dade Fair & Exposition—where it was held for over a decade—on Saturday, August 2, with a full day of fun, resources, and school-year preparation.

Held in the Fuchs Pavilion on the fairgrounds, the Family Expo gives families a chance to pick up free school supplies for elementary, middle, and high school students. Children and youth can get backpacks, pencils, pens, folders, notebooks, and more while supplies last, and The Trust’s provider and partner network will have even more supplies and surprises to give away.

While the supplies are great, since the kids are still in summer mode, they’ll probably be more interested in the games, activities, and entertainment the Family Expo offers. There will be face painters, balloon artists, temporary airbrush tattoo artists, a Kid Zone, arts and crafts, and character appearances and shows. There will also be a photo booth and food trucks. An indoor stage will host performances throughout the day-long event.

The Mobile Units will offer vaccinations and physicals for families and students who need them before the school year begins and provide on-site dental care services.

As kids stock up on their new backpacks and enjoy games inside and outside the building, their parents and caregivers can learn about the valuable resources and services available to families through The Trust and its extensive network of service providers and partners. Parents can connect with community organizations offering programs for after-school care, children with special needs, health services, and more. This is the core reason we host the Family Expo—there are many incredible low-cost and free services for children and families, and we don’t want you to miss out.

Even getting there has been taken care of as The Children’s Trust once again partnered with Uber to offer $15 vouchers to and from the Expo. Learn more at TheChildrensTrust.org/FamilyExpo.

More Learning and Fun with Parent Club Pass

The Children’s Trust is also supporting parents all summer with the launch of the Parent Club Pass. Designed for busy moms, dads, and caregivers, this initiative rewards those who take time to learn, grow, and connect through free parenting workshops throughout the county.

The Parent Club Pass is earned by attending three Parent Club workshops, which are free, welcoming sessions offered in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. These workshops cover real-life parenting topics for every age and stage – from toddlers to teenagers. Many in-person sessions include free child care, snacks, and raffle prizes. Virtual workshops are also available for added convenience.

Once you attend three different workshops and complete short feedback surveys, you’ll receive a Parent Club Pass – your ticket to free, family-friendly experiences like movie nights, theater and sports events, or visits to local museums and parks.

This is a great perk for recognizing that parenting is the most important job in the world and gives additional opportunities to spend quality family time together.
