Dr. Lawrence S. Feldman has been elected as chair of the Miami-Dade County School Board for the 2016-17 school year. Dr. Feldman, who represents District 9, originally was elected to the school board in 2008. He previously has served as vice chair for 2010-11 and 2013-14.
Dr. Marta Pérez was elected as vice chair. Dr. Pérez, who represents District 8, was first elected to the school board in 1998. She previously served as vice chair in 2008.
Board members Susie Castillo, Dr. Feldman, Lubby Navarro and Dr. Martin Karp were sworn in to represent District 5, 9, 7 and 3, respectively. Dr. Steve Gallon III and Mari Tere Rojas were newly sworn in as board members for Districts 1 and 6, respectively.
