Miami local impact organization Foster Dreamzzz recently announced its new free transitional housing initiative benefiting youth recently emancipated from the foster care system in South Florida. Foster Dreamzzz partnered with House of God Miracle Temple to receive the vacant lots of land in Liberty City to develop the housing project.
“This project is a significant step forward in our mission to support and empower young adults who have aged out of foster care, ensuring they have a safe and stable place to call home and a place to live their best life,” said Allen J. West, Foster Dreamzzz founder. “We are grateful for the alliance with House of God Miracle Temple, who have partnered with us to build on their vacant lots of land in Liberty City to make this project possible. With this collaboration, we aim to provide these young adults with a strong foundation for their future and create a positive impact for youth aging out of the foster care system in the Miami community.”
Each year, more than 400,000 children are accounted for in the foster care system in the United States. Of those 400,000, around 20,000 age out of the foster care system each year falling vulnerable to becoming victims of homelessness, incarceration and sex trafficking.
Here are alarming fast facts:
• 20 percent of children in foster care become homeless after the age of 18;
• 60 percent of child trafficking victims have spent time in foster care, and
• 80 percent of inmates incarcerated in U.S prisons have spent time in foster care.
“At Foster Dreamzzz, we recognize the challenges that individuals face when transitioning out of the foster care system. This is why we are committed to supporting them in every possible way,” said Les Brown, a partner of Foster Dreamzzz. “We firmly believe that everyone deserves the chance to thrive and succeed, and this housing project is just one example of how we are working towards that goal.
“As a baby, I was abandoned in a building in Liberty City, only a few blocks from where this project is being developed. I am passionate about helping other foster youth flourish into successful and thriving adults as I have personally experienced the hardships of abandonment and the foster care system,” Brown continued.
At this time, Foster Dreamzzz plans to break ground on the new housing developments in the fourth quarter of this year.
