In a heartfelt ceremony conducted on Thursday, Jan. 23, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez presented renowned art collector, gallerist, and cultural visionary Gary Nader with the Key to the City of Miami. The honor recognizes Nader’s exceptional vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the arts, which have profoundly shaped Miami’s cultural identity.

During the presentation, Mayor Suarez lauded Nader’s contributions to the city, saying, “We are proud to honor you for your invaluable contributions to both the art world and the broader community. Your ability to cultivate connections, elevate artists, and inspire creativity has transformed the cultural landscape and brought new opportunities for diverse voices to be heard. Your remarkable contributions to Miami’s culture and arts have been truly transformative. Thank you for your passion, vision, and dedication to enriching our community through the arts.”

As part of the ceremony, Mayor Suarez was joined by vice chair Joe Carollo, chair Christine King, and Commissioner Miguel Ángel Gabela.

For his part, Nader expressed profound emotion and gratitude, highlighting the special significance this recognition holds in his life and career.

“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to Mayor Suarez and the commissioners for this distinction,” Nader said. “Receiving the Key to the City of Miami is a profound honor for me, especially as I celebrate 40 years of calling this vibrant city my home.

“When I arrived here four decades ago, I was captivated by Miami’s energy and its boundless potential. It has been my lifelong mission to position Miami as not just a global hub for business and tourism but as a beacon of culture and the arts.” Nader added.

Nader’s transformative contributions to the arts include founding the Gary Nader Art Centre, home to an unparalleled collection of modern, contemporary, and Latin American art; the Nader Museum, which showcases groundbreaking exhibitions by world-renowned artists, and Botero Immersed, featuring the world’s largest private collection of works by the legendary Fernando Botero.

These institutions, alongside the highly anticipated Nader Sculpture Park, have positioned Miami as a global destination for culture and art, attracting artists, collectors, and visitors from around the world.
