Florida men’s and women’s swimming and diving continues the 2022-23 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 22 when the Gators head to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on the highly ranked Cavaliers. Competition is set to begin at 10 a.m., with diving events beginning at 5 p.m. Friday evening.

The Gators last competed against Nova Southeastern and Arkansas last month<https://floridagators.com/news/2022/9/23/mens-swimming-diving-florida-completes-sweep-in-dominating-fashion.aspx>. The 11th ranked Florida women downed both Nova and Arkansas in a double-dual, while the third ranked men topped Nova to start the season off with a win. The Gators won 31 of the 32 events.

Florida’s newcomers impressed during the season opener, behind Joshua Liendo, who won all three of his events on the way to SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors on Sep. 27. Jake Mitchell finished first in the 500 free and second in the 200 free in his Gators debut.

Freshman Hayden Miller won the 1000 free against Nova and Arkansas, earning her SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week to open her career, while Anton Svirskyi’s career-best performances in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives gave him Co-SEC Men’s Diver of the Week to start the season.

The Virginia women are coming off back-to-back national championships, and are ranked No. 1 in the most recent CSCAA poll, while the men are ranked No. 9. Saturday’s meet is the season opener for the Cavaliers, who have six swimmers on the USA National Roster, including Olympic silver medalist Alex Walsh and Olympic Bronze Medalist Kate Douglass.
