District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo and the City of Miami’s Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) on Dec. 4 broke ground on the long-awaited Morningside Park Improvement Project.
After years of planning and community discussions, the Morningside Park Improvement Project officially is moving forward, marking a significant step toward enhancing one of District 2’s most cherished green spaces.
“As a proud resident of the Morningside neighborhood since 1999, I’m thrilled to see this long-awaited project finally moving forward. This is the first major park renovation in more than a quarter of a century,” Commissioner Pardo said. “This park is a jewel in our community, and these improvements will ensure it remains a resilient and welcoming space for all of us to enjoy. While change can be challenging for some, we are confident these efforts will lead to a brighter future for generations to come in Morningside and Miami.”
The project will deliver essential upgrades in two phases:
Phase I (Eastern Shoreline): New seawall, baywalk, trails, solar-powered lighting, enhanced park amenities, landscaping, and upgrades to the boat ramp area.
• Phase II (Western Shoreline): Drainage improvements and additional landscaping.
This long-anticipated initiative will improve park accessibility, protect the shoreline, and create a welcoming environment for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come. While construction temporarily limits access to the shoreline area, the park’s western side will remain open.
