HCA Florida Mercy Hospital has announced the opening of four new operating rooms (ORs), marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s $100 million capital expenditure initiative.
This expansion underscores the hospital’s commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of the community, providing increased access to advanced surgical care.
The new operating rooms bring the total number of ORs at HCA Florida Mercy Hospital to 16, further enhancing the hospital’s capacity to serve its patients. Three of these new ORs are dedicated to orthopedic procedures, creating more space in the main OR for other essential surgical services. Additionally, the fourth OR is a state-of-the-art hybrid room specifically designed for cardiac and vascular procedures.
“The general ORs will be dedicated to orthopedics, which will allow us to open room in our main OR for additional surgical service needs in the community,” said Allyssa Tobitt, CEO of HCA Florida Mercy Hospital. “Our hybrid OR will be dedicated to cardiac and vascular services, equipped with cutting-edge technology to deliver advancements in these critical service lines.”
The expansion is part of HCA Healthcare’s broader commitment to investing in community healthcare. Over the past few years, HCA Healthcare has allocated significant capital to enhance hospital infrastructure and technology across 14 hospitals in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach County, and the Treasure Coast. These funds have been used to upgrade equipment, adopt innovative diagnostics, improve patient treatments, and enhance overall patient experience.
Florida’s population growth, with a 2.35 percent increase between 2022 and 2023, further highlights the importance of these investments.
“Mercy Hospital is always looking to see where it can expand next,” Tobitt said. “We assess what the community needs most and prioritize projects that align with those needs.”
The announcement also coincides with the hospital’s 75th anniversary, a testament to its longstanding presence and impact in the community.
“HCA Florida Mercy Hospital has been serving the community since 1950,” Tobitt said. “We look forward to continuing to meet the healthcare needs of our patients for many years to come.”
