Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade gets grant from The Miami Foundation
Funding will help continue having the offices professionally sanitized and providing all staff with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) equipment.

The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade (HSCMD) recently announced that the Miami Foundation has awarded funding for its program in Miami-Dade County.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic and the economic impact which nonprofits have faced, the $47,500 grant will support HSCMD’s local initiatives to continue in its efforts to provide a healthy start for pregnant women, new moms, babies, and their families.

“We are honored by the support we’ve received from the Miami Foundation and as an essential business we continue our mission of reducing poor birth outcomes (premature births, low birth weight and infant mortality) in our community,” said HSCMD CEO Manuel “Manny” Fermin. “The Miami Foundation’s aid during this challenging time is crucial to supporting our local prevention and awareness initiatives.”

As a community-based nonprofit, HSCMD has distributed an estimated 60,000 FDA approved cloth masks to approximately 350 prenatal care providers in Miami-Dade County for their patients and staff. The cloth masks were provided by the Florida Department of Health (FDOH).

The funding from the Miami Foundation will provide HSCMD with the means to continue to ensure the safety of staff, which has been and continues to be a priority. It also will allow for HSCMD to address the additional expenses incurred because of the COVID-19 pandemic; such as consistent office sanitization protocols, having the offices professionally sanitized and providing all staff with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) equipment.

The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade (HSCMD) is a community-based non-profit organization statutorily designated and funded by the State of Florida Department of Health (FDOH) and the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to serve as Miami-Dade County’s prenatal and infant care coalition. HSCMD partners with local community-based organizations and healthcare professionals to plan, coordinate, and provide high quality health and education services to women of childbearing age, infants up to age three, and their families.
