On Monday, October 27, 2025, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and School Board Member Mary Blanco proudly celebrated the ribbon-cutting of Herbert A. Ammons Middle School’s new state-of-the-art campus, marking an exciting milestone for the school community.
This new facility was designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence. As an International Baccalaureate Magnet School, Ammons Middle continues to set the standard for innovative education. The new campus enhances opportunities for students to think critically, engage creatively, and prepare to become the next generation of global leaders.
Herbert A. Ammons Middle School has a long tradition of excellence. The school has been an “A” rated school for the past 25 years, has been named a National Blue Ribbon School twice, and has been recognized by Magnet Schools of America as a Merit School of Excellence or Distinction for over 15 years. In addition, U.S. News & World Report has honored Ammons as one of the top middle schools in the nation.
“Today is a proud moment for Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Ammons community,” says School Board Member Blanco. “This new campus will provide our students with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.”
It was an honor to welcome the family of Herbert A. Ammons as we celebrated his legacy and the school that proudly carries his name. A special thank you to Principal Maria Costa, Assistant Principals Maria Masso and Rodney Wright for their leadership, vision, and dedication in guiding the school through this exciting transformation.
An additional thank you to Superintendent Jose L. Dotres, the South Region Office and South Region Superintendent, Mr. Rafael Villalobos, and Chief of Facilities, Mr. Raul Perez, for their ongoing support during this journey.
