A century-old historic landmark in Coconut Grove is being brought back to its former glory by more than 20 interior designers for the Junior League of Miami Showhouse 2016, a landmark fundraiser to help raise funds and awareness for the Junior League’s programs to help women and children in the community.

The former home of Dr. David and Marian Fairchild, The Kampong, a registered historic place and one of only five National Tropical Botanical Gardens, is open to the public for a home and garden experience from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday through Apr. 24.

Upon entering the Showhouse, the collective work of professional interior designers, countless product purveyors, significant corporate and individual donors, and the volunteerism of hundreds of women of the Junior League of Miami will be unveiled, creating an impact from a visceral and philanthropic perspective.

And, when the public display closes at sundown on Apr. 24, the impact will continue.

“We are proud to have made so many connections — community, private, and government entities — during this project that will continue beyond the three-week span that the Showhouse will be open,” said Emilie Goldman Wernick, president, Junior League of Miami.

“The collective commitment to the betterment of our community will be seen for years to come through tangible aspects of the fundraiser that include permanent elements at The Kampong, such as complete renovations to the kitchen and bathrooms, the installation of museum-quality wallpaper, upgraded appliances and fixtures, and more,” she said.

The inspiration for many of the designers came from the property’s roots, which include a fascinating array of tropical fruit cultivars and flowering trees, with some of its first plantings originating from Indo-Malaysia. The property’s exterior gate, painted a bold red color, will be reflected in the work of interior designers within the four walls of the Kampong, complemented by outdoor works of art by renowned landscape architects Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio, Fernando Wong Outdoor Living Design, and a large-scale sculpture by Taylor & Taylor.

Additional designers and product purveyors include:Bonnin Ashley Antiques, Charlotte Dunagan Design Group, Coconut Grove Gallery & Interiors, Design Solutions, Donna Moss, HLS Interior Design, HLS Interior Design, Interiors by Maite Granda, Jorge Castillo Design Inc., Mabley Handler Interior Design, Margaux Interiors, Peeples Rionda Interiors, Rochi Llaneza, Saccaro USA, Sarah Z Designs, Sheryl Bleustein Interiors, and The Gallery Interiors.

A true community-focused initiative, businesses with local connections provided generous donations, including presenting sponsor Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables and Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay, platinum sponsor EWM International Realty, and Northern Trust, Bilzin Sumberg, CAMBRIA, Luxe Magazine, Indulge Magazine/Miami Herald, and marketing partner The HighBoy.

“The Junior League of Miami is represented by a group of dedicated individuals working together to empower others,” said Greg Barnes, president, Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables and Mercedez-Benz of Cutler Bay.

“At Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables and Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay, we are also dedicated to driving a positive, rewarding experience. This is our focus for our employees, clients, and community partners. We truly believe in supporting those who help others, as many of these individuals are our clients and future clients,” he said.
