The Caring Place: Miami Rescue Mission/ Broward Outreach Centers combined the spirt of hope found in Christmas with the independence of July through receipt of a meal and a large community career fair.
The Caring Place: Miami Rescue Mission/ Broward Outreach Centers, conducted its annual “Christmas in July” celebration for homeless and hungry families of South Florida. This outreach, themed “Restoring Independence,” provided much-needed meals and services to nearly 2,000 South Florida homeless and needy men, women, and children.
The annual outreach included free Mission Hope hygiene bags, free clothing, a barbecue meal and more.
The featured attraction at the event was the annual career/resource fair. Community Work Training Program, Goodwill South Florida, Construction Group Corporation, Legal Services of Greater Miami and Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus were in attendance as part of the Career Fair in Miami.
The event was made possible by presenting sponsor PriceSmart as well as individual partners and volunteers. Both the Miami and Broward campuses followed social distancing as a preventive measure. There were temperature checks, and each guest had their hands sanitized as they entered the event, as well as masks that were handed out.
The Miami outreach featured their career fair for inside guests in the Center for Men Cafeteria during meal time. Particiating agencies lent their support to engage the formerly homeless men and women in opportunities for independence through jobs and social service referrals. Guests were spoken to by Pastor Kris McFadden from FaithLife Church from Port Charlotte, right after the church led the crowd in a beautiful time of worship.
Guests inside and out were served a barbecue style meal of hotdogs and hamburgers by Volunteers from FaithLife Church from Port Charlotte, Florida. Following the dinner, all guests received free hygiene bags and free clothing on their way out. Miami Campus guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Claus along with an elf. They spread some needed holiday cheer at Christmas in July.
