Hundreds of downtown Miami construction workers came together on Friday, Mar. 17, to honor the 80th birthday of one of South Florida’s most respected real estate developers, Jose Luis Melo, president and patriarch of the family-owned Melo Group.

The celebratory lunch took place at the site of Aria on the Bay, Melo Group’s newest luxury condominium project under construction in the Arts and Entertainment District, which is set to top off soon at 53 stories.

City of Miami Commissioner Frank Carollo, Commissioner Ken Russell, along with several of the Melo family’s longtime employees and members of the firm’s construction team — many of whom have been working with the family for more than 15 years — spoke at the celebratory event, praising Melo’s contribution to the revitalization of Miami’s urban core over the last decade.

Since arriving in Miami from Argentina in 2001, Melo Group’s father-and-sons team, led by Jose Luis Melo and his two sons Carlos and Martin Melo, has been a driving force behind the city’s real estate resurgence, with Aria on the Bay marking the firm’s 14th residential tower to be developed in the Greater Downtown Miami area.
