Achieve Miami’s Teacher Accelerator Program (TAP) on Saturday, May 10, hosted its first annual “TAP Glow Up: A Teacher’s Night to Shine,” an evening dedicated to honoring the accomplishments and impact of TAP’s 2024-25 cohort. This cohort of 98 new educators has spent the past year transforming classrooms and uplifting students across Miami-Dade County Public Schools as first-time teachers.
Inspired by the brightness of the color orange, the “Glow Up” was more than a party — it was a joyful tribute, a storytelling space, and a formal recognition of teachers’ perseverance, growth, and community impact.
The program, which took place at Miami-Dade College’s Padron Campus, included opening remarks, a panel of TAP veteran educators, awards for TAP Rookie Teachers of the Year, a raffle honoring TAP moms in time for Mother’s Day, and a heartfelt sendoff into “TAP Alumnihood.”
Presenters included: Leslie Miller Saiontz, founder, Achieve Miami; Dr. Carmen Concepción, dean, School of Education, Miami Dade College; Daniel Perez, TAP coach and program manager. There also was a Veteran Teacher Panel featuring TAP alumni and professors: Carlos Griffin (’24 candidate), Selena Wang (’23 candidate and Rookie of the Year), Professor Singh (TAP faculty). Professor Morales (TAP faculty), plus TAP Rookie Teachers of the Year: Dornecia Dayley, Selena Wang, Gema Levia and Amanda Burns.
Closing Remarks were made by Jasmine Calin-Micek, senior director, TAP.
Teacher Accelerator Program (TAP) is a nonprofit organization creating a pipeline of talent for the teaching profession through recruiting, preparing, and mentoring aspiring educators. TAP’s comprehensive and streamlined program equips college students and career changers with the skills, knowledge, and certification necessary to excel in the classroom. TAP addresses the nationwide teacher shortage crisis by providing a built-in path to teaching, inspiring a new generation of educators.
TAP participants take a one-semester course, followed by a six-week paid summer internship, earn a certificate to teach and begin instructing in a Miami-Dade County Public School classroom by the start of the new school year in Fall. TAP is an initiative of Achieve Miami, supported by Teach for America Miami-Dade, and is offered by the University of Miami, Florida International University and Miami-Dade College.
