Isabella Velasquez, 14, of Miami was named the winner of Tri-Rail’s “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent,” an annual showcase of aspiring young vocal stars, during Tri-Rail’s Herzog “Rail Fun Day” presented by Transdev.

The talent competition took place at the free family event on Feb. 22 at Tri-Rail’s Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport Station at Dania Beach, drawing a crowd of over 3,000 children and families.

“Tri-Rail is a vital part of the South Florida community,” said Palm Beach County District 4 Commissioner Marci Woodward, SFRTA Governing Board chair. “Rail Fun Day and events like ‘South Florida’s Kids Got Talent’ give us the opportunity to engage with families in a meaningful way, as we highlight the benefits of Tri-Rail as a safe, reliable, and affordable transportation choice.”

In addition to the talent competition, “Rail Fun Day” offered an array of family-friendly activities, including face painting, cookie decorating, and arts and crafts with the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood. Attendees also engaged with representatives from popular South Florida businesses and organizations including Abandoned Pet Rescue, Broward County Schools, Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program, Camp Live Oak, Cayuga Centers, Dania Dermatology, Flamingo Gardens, Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Panthers, Gold Coast Railroad Museum, Granada Indoor Soccer, History Fort Lauderdale, Humane Society of Broward County, Mathnasium, Museum of Discovery and Science and Sky Zone. The event was sponsored by Herzog Transit Services and Transdev.

Talented singers from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties took the stage for Tri-Rail’s “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” contest, competing for a $500 grand prize, a one-year contract with Posche Models & Talent — including a professional photo shoot with composite cards — and studio recording sessions with MikeSoperMusic.

Contestants performed a diverse selection of songs, and Isabella Velasquez’s stage presence and performance of Hand in My Pocket” by Alanis Morissette won over the crowd and judges. First runnerup Zachary Kopelman of Plantation received a $250 cash prize.

Tri-Rail’s “Rail Fun Day” was created in 2007 to promote the benefits of the commuter rail system to South Florida families. The event has become an annual tradition for South Florida families to enjoy a free day of fun and entertainment and experience the convenience of riding Tri-Rail to get to work, school and local events and attractions.
