Premier holiday basketball tournament returns December 27–30, bringing elite boys and girls teams to Miami.
The Junior Orange Bowl is proud to announce the return of one of South Florida’s most celebrated holiday traditions — the 2025 Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic, taking place December 27, 29, and 30 at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School (500 SW 127th Ave, Miami, FL 33184).
Now approaching its 37th year since its inception in 1989, the Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic has become a staple of South Florida’s winter sports calendar, showcasing high-level competition and providing a stage for some of the nation’s top high school basketball talent. Since 1998, the event has followed its signature eight team boys and eight-team girls tournament format, a structure that has helped produce unforgettable matchups and championship moments for decades.
Over the course of three days, the tournament will feature 24 total games with a competitive field made up of 16 elite programs — eight boys teams and eight girls teams. This year’s field is especially strong, with nine teams representing Broward and Miami-Dade County, including local programs such as Belen Jesuit and Palmetto High School, further cementing the event’s importance to the local basketball community.
“The talent level is extreme,” said Chuck Little, Chairman of the Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Committee. “Many of the young players that are playing with us this year are going to be playing at the next level. We have a top boys team out of Ohio that’s a Final Four team from last year. On the girls side, St. John’s College, their team is extremely powerful this year.”
Adding to this year’s excitement is the return of the Purcell Marian girls program, which captured the tournament championship two years ago and now returns for another run at the title, bringing experience, confidence, and championship pedigree back to Miami.
Beyond the competition, the Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic is known for creating memories and experiences that teams value long after the final buzzer sounds.
“It’s great to see these teams not only compete at a high level, but they enjoy the experience and look forward to coming back multiple times,” Little added.
With a legacy built on excellence, tradition, and opportunity, the 2025 Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic continues to represent the very best of high school basketball — where elite talent meets a historic stage and the next generation of stars are born.
