Kiwanis Club of Northeast Miami-Dade names Jeffrey Berson as president
Jeffrey Berson, with nearly 40 years of service in Kiwanis, has been elected as the president of the Kiwanis Club of Northeast Miami-Dade.

Jeffrey Berson, a Kiwanian for nearly four decades, has been elected president of the Kiwanis Club of Northeast Miami-Dade, one of South Florida’s most active community service organizations.

Berson, who began his Kiwanis career in his native New York in 1986 before moving to South Florida and joining the Northeast Miami-Dade Club in 1996, was excited about his opportunity to lead the club.

“Being elected president is very exciting,” said Berson, who is known around the north end of Miami-Dade County by his distinctive orange coat and the Kiwanis-touting signage on his car. “We’re looking to expand our membership so we can increase the amount of our community service projects even further. We live the Kiwanis message — improving the world one child and one community at a time — everyday!”

Berson, who has served in various positions with the club since joining in 1996, is best known for his direct involvement in a wide variety of schools in the North Dade area. He has served as a Kiwanis Advisor to 20 elementary, middle and senior high schools and was twice named — in 2017 and 2021 — as an Outstanding Kiwanis Advisor by the Florida District of Kiwanis.

A past Distinguished Lt. Governor in the Florida District, Berson also received the Key of Honor in 2021, the highest award presented to an adult from Key Club International.

“Jeff Berson is what Kiwanis is all about,” said Lew Matusow, public relations coordinator for the Florida District of Kiwanis. “His dedication to kids — particularly Key Clubs in high schools — is legendary. He has rightfully earned the name ‘Mr. Kiwanis’ in North Miami Dade County.”

As an example of that dedication, Berson has served as a Kiwanis Advisor for both North Miami Senior High School and the New World School of the Arts for the past 26 years. Yet, with all his involvement with kids in school and the recognition he has received from that interaction, Berson remains modest.

“I love working with kids, which is what Kiwanis is all about — improving the lives of kids,” said Berson, who is also president of the North Miami Beach Toastmasters Club. “I’m proudest of my work as a Kiwanis Advisor which has resulted in students getting accepted to schools such as Harvard, Yale, Cambridge University, Columbia, Princeton, Stanford, Georgetown and a host of other universities and colleges in Florida. These are the future leaders of our country.”

Membership in the Kiwanis Club of Northeast Miami-Dade is $150 a year and free — for two years — for former Key Club or Circle K members. For more information about the Kiwanis Club of Northeast Miami-Dade, contact Berson via email at jbkiwanis@aol.com or via phone at 305-409-7850.
