Legal Services of Greater Miami is a nonprofit law firm that provides free legal help to low-income residents of Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. For nearly 60 years, our mission has been to advance economic opportunity and social justice, and we strive to ensure fairness, stability, and access to justice for people who cannot afford a lawyer. Every year, thousands of families, seniors, veterans, workers, and people with disabilities turn to us for support during some of the hardest moments in their lives.
We are proud to support clients across a variety of legal challenges. Our attorneys help with problems that affect basic needs like housing, income, health, education, and financial security. Some of our major practice areas include:
Housing: Stopping illegal evictions, helping tenants get repairs, and keeping families safely in their homes.
Income & Public Benefits: Helping people receive the benefits they qualify for, including Social Security, SNAP/food assistance, Medicaid, Medicare, unemployment, and veterans’ benefits.
Consumer & Employment Rights: Protecting people from scams, unfair debt collection, identity theft, and foreclosure.
Taxpayer Assistance: Assisting individuals and families with IRS disputes and tax issues.
Special Education Advocacy: Ensuring that children with disabilities receive the services and supports they are entitled to in school.
Support for Nonprofits & Small Businesses: Helping mission-driven nonprofits and low-income small business owners resolve legal issues so they can continue serving their communities and supporting local economic growth.
Our work is critical because civil legal problems can quickly turn into crises. An eviction notice, a denied disability or veteran’s benefit, or mounting debt can spiral into homelessness, hunger, or the loss of basic stability. Many people facing these issues cannot afford a lawyer, even though the stakes are high. When we help someone stay in their home, secure their benefits, or clear up a legal problem, it often changes the direction of their life. When justice is accessible to everyone, our community is stronger.
