Lights, Camera, Film … SUMMER CAMP

FFI_logo (1)Florida Film Institute (FFI) is excited to announce a summer partnership for the fourth year with the Coral Gables Cinemateque (CGC). CINEMA, a film education summer camp will be held at the CGC’s Coral Gables Art Cinema, located at 260 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables, from June 16 to July 24, 2014. Up to 25 high school students are invited to attend the workshops that meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00am to 1:00pm. There will be three field trips which will take place during the camp sessions (on selected Thursdays).

FFI will give students the opportunity to focus on essential and practical aspects of commercial motion picture production, including script preparation, cinematography, lighting, sound recording, directing, acting and music. The program will feature instruction by South Florida Film Industry professionals.

“We are very excited to present this series of filmmaking workshops for teens in the South Florida community,” said Stephanie Martino, Founder and President of FFI. “CINEMA does an excellent job of teaching the basics of filmmaking, and provides the unique opportunity of creating a film.”

Registration is available online at www.flfilminstitute.org and will end on June 4, 2014. The total camp fee for six weeks is available at a reduced rate of $595.00. FFI is able to offer this discounted fee to each participant because of the generosity of our sponsors. If not for their help the regular fee would be $1,660 per student. This year we are able to offer 3 full scholarships to students in need of financial assistance. In order to apply for the scholarship you will need to call the office by May 30, 2014. All applicants will be notified by June 4, 2014 if they have been granted a scholarship for the program. Scholarships are available for Dade County residents only.

Since its inception in 1992, FFI has mentored over 6,000 middle and high school students from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and in the past 21 years, FFI student films have received 78 exciting awards in filmmaking. The Coral Gables Art Cinema is a project of the Coral Gables Cinemateque, Inc., a non-profit film arts organization. The Cinema, which opened in October of 2010, has a16/35mm and industry standard true theatrical quality 2K Digital Cinema Projection with 3D capability, as well as professional Dolby surround sound, with 141 stadium-configured seats. The Cinema offers one of the best venues for appreciating alternative film in South Florida. It operates year-round, seven-days-a-week, presenting high quality American independent, foreign and classic films that are not generally available at other theaters in South Florida.
