While some organizations take summer breaks, it seems local women’s club still have a full calendar. In fact, coming up soon, on Aug. 12, guests are invited to Ann’s eighth annual English Tea Party, 2- 4 p.m., presented by the Coco Plum Woman’s Club, at 1375 Sunset Dr. in Coral Gables. Come wearing your favorite elegant, funny or original hat and vie for a prize.
The tea will benefit Canine Companions for Independence for Veterans. The affair will include a fashion show by Talbots. Tickets are $25.

After a successful Karaoke Night fundraiser on June 12, the Coral Gables Woman’s Club took the proceeds of that event and on July 14 presented a $1,000 to the Ann Storck Center. Eneida Rivera and other members of the club enjoyed touring the center and meeting several of the wonderful residents and staff members.
The public is invited to attend the center’s 14th annual Expressive Arts Performance for the Ann Storck Center, a musical production written, directed and performed by the individuals served by Ann Storck Center.
This creative endeavor is staged on a set that is prepared by the residents. The show illustrates talent is not bound by disability, and applies the over-reaching mission of Ann Storck Center to discover abilities and build independence.
Light hors d’oeuvres will be served during the art show and reception courtesy of M&H Café of Davie.
On display will be works of art from the Ann Storck Center permanent collection as well as new art pieces created by the residents through the Expressive Arts Program. Art pieces will be available for purchase, with the proceeds directly benefiting the expressive arts program of Ann Storck Center.
Speaking of the Coral Gables Club, the ladies took a break from their many outreach efforts with a night of bowling and pizza at Splitsville on July 15.
By the way, Splitsville has a great happy hour and you can’t beat the beautiful bowling lanes and food. Everyone had such a good time, there is talk of returning for another fun night away from their beautiful clubhouse in the Gables. Some of the many women enjoying the event orchestrated by club vice president Deborah Van Stone Moore were Barbara Lapsley, Vicki McGroarty, Andy Young, Ivonne Perez Suarez, Yvonne Elejalde, Patty Hendon, and Linda Hartwell.
On the chamber scene, the Christian Chamber of Greater Miami continues to attract some amazing speakers and this month’s was no exception. At the July 14 breakfast at the Country Club of Coral Gables, a full house came to hear from Podcasting Legend, J.B. Glossinger, MBA, PhD. J.B. is an internationally known motivational speaker, author, coach and consultant who shared his journey from a successful career in corporate America to taking a leap of faith when the Internet gave him an audience for his inspired messages. He persevered like few would have against the odds and has certainly found his calling.
Among the crowd enjoying the morning event were CCOGM executive director John Lobo and founder Kent Crook, who welcomed the crowd and thanked lunch sponsor Larry Jacob Internet Marketing.
Among the crowd were Rosemary Guilfoyle, Angel Pittman, Maria and Donald Van Ordel, and a hundred of so more who thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and networking opportunity.
Finally, July 23 was a fun night for members of Profit Inc., one of Miami- Dade’s oldest business networking groups. Members gathered for a social at Tarpon Bend, a favorite spot for many of the long time members including former Profit Inc. president Robert Beans.
Current president Stacy Alonso invites those interested possibly joining this category exclusive group to contact executive director Linda Wolonik at 1-954-370- 0041. The group meets for lunch at 94th Aero Squadron twice a month on Thursdays.
