LSF Miami Bridge, Miami’s only 24-hour emergency shelter for youth ages 10-17, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Mar. 4, for its newly renovated boys’ dormitories. The event took place at the LSF Miami Bridge campus, located at 2810 NW S. River Dr. in Miami.

“While the quality of this newly renovated facility is important, it’s the dedicated staff at LSF Miami Bridge who make the true difference, providing care and compassion to the kids we serve,” said Mike Carroll, LSF chief operating officer. “These semi-private dormitories are designed to give these kids the safe space they deserve. The kids that come through our doors have complex issues and have seen things you could never imagine. In their darkest hour we are their connection to a hopeful and promising future.”

Among those in attendance were City of Miami Commissioner Miguel Angel Gabela and Shavon Saint Preux, MSM, who has a personal connection to the organization as a former foster youth who spent time at Miami Bridge 17 years ago.

The newly renovated dormitories are designed to offer a warm and dignified environment where the boys can find stability, build resilience and meet their full potential as members of the community. The updated facilities, featuring four double rooms and two single rooms, reflect the high-quality service provided by the dedicated staff at LSF Miami Bridge, who continue to nurture and support youth in their care.

“The renovated dorms are the first step in our capital fund campaign. Given the age of our shelters and grant limitations, we still have more work to build on the good structure and foundation of these buildings,” said Kevin Stamper, LSF vice president of development. “If we expect our shelters to be a place for healing and growing then our transformation work must continue until we create an inviting space where we would leave our own children.”

LSF Miami Bridge operates two 24-hour emergency shelters in Homestead and Miami, providing immediate refuge for youth experiencing traumatic stressors. Each shelter accommodates 20 beds, divided evenly between male and female residents. These shelters are fully licensed and accredited, ensuring that the youth who come through their doors receive the best care possible.

In addition to providing emergency shelter, LSF Miami Bridge focuses on preventing youth from entering the juvenile justice system through a variety of programs, including individual, family, and group counseling. The organization aims to support youth in crisis, helping them build resilience, achieve personal goals, and reconnect with their families and communities.

LSF is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to helping the most vulnerable Floridians. This is gone by reducing the suicide and drug addiction rate, giving families in crisis the support they need to persevere, and making sure those in poverty get the education they need to close the achievement gap.
