Distracted driving is never okay. You’re never alone on the road, even when you are alone in your car.
That is the message AT&T hopes its IT CAN WAIT Virtual Reality (VR) simulator drove home with MAST Academy students in Virginia Key. The simulator paid a visit to the school on Aug. 29, as part of AT&T’s IT CAN WAIT Virtual Reality Tour.
The IT CAN WAIT VR simulation is designed to steer people away from smartphone driving distractions. Using the AT&T IT CAN WAIT VR app with the Samsung Gear VR headset, Samsung Note smartphone and Bose noise-canceling headphones, the students experienced in a 3-D immersive, lifelike setting, what can happen when they are distracted by their phone while behind the wheel.
The IT CAN WAIT VR tour was spawned by research from AT&T that showed seven in 10 people engage in smartphone activities behind the wheel. In 2015, AT&T expanded the focus of the IT CAN WAIT campaign from texting to include other smartphone driving distractions, such as posting to social media, emailing and surfing the net.
AT&T launched the IT CAN WAIT campaign in 2007. More than 19 million pledges have been made by people to not drive distracted.
