MAST@FIU — a full-time, university-based magnet high school — will be hosting recruitment and informational sessions via Zoom for the 2020-21 school year on the following dates: Nov. 12; Dec. 9, and Jan. 6, 2021.
MAST@FIU welcomes eligible incoming ninth-grade students from all public, private, parochial and charter schools in South Florida. Students who have excellent conduct and attendance; have completed Honors Algebra I, including passing the End of Course (EOC) examination and Honors Physical Science with a grade no lower than a “B,” and possess a minimum 3.0 unweighted grade point average (GPA) are invited to apply online at yourchoicemiami.org/.
Online applications will be accepted through Jan. 15, 2021. Enrollment is limited and eligible applicants will be selected for enrollment by random process. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
Students attending MAST@FIU participate in a new educational program that gives them the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in six years. The unique blended educational experience at MAST@FIU affords students the opportunity to complete all of their high school, Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU in four years. Tuition, fees and textbooks are provided at no cost to students. Eligible 12th grade students also may complete their last year of high school as full-time, fully admitted university students at FIU.
MAST@FIU is the only public high school in Florida that enjoys a collaborative partnership with a public university and is the only magnet school in Miami-Dade County Public Schools that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the context of Environmental and Marine Sciences. The school is recognized as one of the top STEM schools in the country and is classified as a Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America.
