During the 2024 State of the Arts in Miami-Dade County Address on Mar. 7, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced the launch of a new strategic initiative, Arts Energize 305, a new vision for greater cultural equity.

The Arts Energize 305 initiative aims to increase universal access to the arts and culture while engaging and serving underserved populations and neighborhoods.

“The arts have an important economic and social impact in the lives of our residents, creating more connected and livable communities, and solidifying our international status as a global center of culture,” Mayor Levine Cava said. “The new Arts Energize 305 plan is a blueprint that will guide our continued efforts to more equitable access to the arts so that residents across all neighborhoods can all lead artful lives!”

The Arts Energize 305 plan’s key strategies include increasing support for cultural institutions, arts groups and artists; developing arts spaces and cultural venues; increasing engagement of all residents and developing innovative partnerships.

“Under Mayor Levine Cava’s leadership, our department and the Cultural Affairs Council are taking a fresh look at the delivery systems for arts and culture,” said Marialaura Leslie, director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. “Artists bring vital creative energy, imagination and inspiration to our daily life. We are amplifying that vibrancy through cross-sector collaborations to increase participation in cultural activities for all our residents and visitors.”

The 2024 State of the Arts Address was delivered by Cultural Affairs Council chair Brian E. May. In addition to the launch of Arts Energize 305 initiative, the event featured The Underwater, a socially engaged art project and activation by Miami-Dade County Artist-in-Residence Xavier Cortada and performances by Young Musicians Unite and Delou Africa Dance Ensemble.
