Miami-Dade County is plugging in with OBE Power to offer smart electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations at key municipal parking facilities throughout the County. The announcement by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava to launch the public-private partnership took place Sept. 30 at the County’s West Lot Garage where sets of new EV charging stations are now featured and fully functioning.

Noting that the event occurred during National Drive Electric Week (Sept 25 – Oct 3), OBE Power Managing Director Alejandro Burgana said, “This launch is an important step forward toward a greener, more resilient community that confronts climate change head on by dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions.” The transportation sector produces the majority of all greenhouse gas emissions contributing to global warming.

“We are very excited for this new project because it serves to eliminate one of the barriers that discourage people from transitioning to Electric Vehicles,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who drives an electric vehicle. “As more parking facilities offer charging stations, more people will be able to charge their EV when they go to work, including myself.

As Mayor Levine Cava offered a live demonstration of the charger, she stated “This project is part of our commitment to reduce emissions – and we are just getting started.” Miami-Dade County is set to launch further wide-ranging initiatives for reducing pollution in its new Climate Action Strategy starting this fall.

From leading the County‘s EV Charging ordinance back in 2019, to her active support of clean and efficient public transportation, to the expansion of the EV charging network, Mayor Levine Cava has long been a trailblazer for environmental issues, leading the clean transportation and e-mobility movement in the State of Florida.

According to Burgana, one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption is public access to a reliable and widely available EV charging network. OBE Power is meeting this challenge head on by implementing our EV charging as a Service solution, where host property locations get the charging amenity at no cost, including installation, permitting, warranty, management and operation.

Also at the press conference and launch at the West Lot Garage were the County’s Chief Resilience Officer James Murley and Director of Internal Services Department Alex Muñoz, along with several special guests from the e-mobility and technology sectors.

“It’s an exciting day for OBE Power, Burgana added. “But even more so for the people of Miami-Dade County – and there is so much more to come. We look forward to expanding the program to additional locations in phase two.”

The new West Lot Garage charging stations are now available for public use at the north end of the garage on the ground floor at 220 NW 3rd Street, Miami, FL 33128. This set of stations joins three other sets of OBE Power stations now operating and available to the public:

  • Hickman Garage, 270 NW 2nd St., Miami, FL 33128
  • Cultural Center Garage, 90 SW 1st St, Miami, FL 33130
  • Overtown Transit Village Garage (opening soon) 701 NW 1st Ct., Miami, FL 33136

OBE Power, the second largest owned and operated EV charging network in the State of Florida, makes EV charging easy for multi-family residents, corporate and government employees, students, and consumers wherever they work, live, and play.
