Arthur & Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts has been named a National Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.
Arthur & Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts (APM COTA) is an award-winning Miami Dade County public magnet school with a one-of-a-kind conservatory curriculum complemented by rigorous academics. The school offers programs in band, orchestra, choir, dance, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, and television production.
“With AP Mays Conservatory of the Arts winning a national merit award for the third year in a row, it simply validates all the hard work of the students, teachers and faculty,” said principal Martin T. Reid. “It’s proof that we are one of the premiere magnet schools in the nation.”
Reid will be recognized and receive a National Magnet School of Distinction Merit Award on behalf of the school during an awards ceremony during thre Magnet Schools of America’s 34th National Conference hosted by Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Miami, May 3-7.
To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.
Todd Mann, executive director of Magnet Schools of America, and Doreen Marvin, president, will present the award on May 5.
