Miami Dade College (MDC) has named MDC alumna Nikki Whiting as assistant vice president of communications.
Whiting brings nearly a decade of bilingual communications and media relations expertise spanning all levels of government. Her communications acumen has significantly enhanced the visibility and impact of elected officials and their initiatives across social media platforms and on local, national and international media outlets.
“We are excited to welcome Nikki Whiting as our new assistant vice president of communications,” said Travis Jordan, vice president of marketing and communications.
“With her impressive track record and forward-thinking approach, Nikki is poised to make a substantial impact on our communication efforts. We look forward to her contributions and leadership as we continue to build a national reputation and elevate our academic programs.”
In her new role, Whiting will serve as the college’s primary spokesperson, overseeing MDC’s media relations and social media outreach, working closely with Jordan and Irene Muñoz, assistant vice president of marketing, with both reporting to Jordan.
“As an MDC alumna, I am eager to contribute my experience and skill set to one of the nation’s largest higher education institutions and look forward to driving its impactful mission forward through strategic communications efforts,” Whiting said.
Before joining MDC, Whiting was deputy director of communications for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, helping shape the state’s health and human services messaging strategy. Her extensive experience in state government includes serving as director of communications at the Florida Department of Health and as senior advisor to Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez.
Prior to her tenure in Tallahassee, she was the director of communications for former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban “Steve” Bovo. Whiting began her public service career in the office of former U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, serving as press secretary and legislative assistant in Washington, DC.
A Miami native of Cuban descent, Whiting holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Miami.
